Summer is the best time for me to host. We’re typical New Yorkers without a dining table (just two chairs at a kitchen island that we also use for prep). We are also less-typical New Yorkers with a backyard, grill, and a picnic table that comfortably seats seven. Lest you get too jealous, we do share the backyard with an insolent mosquito population.
This year, I want to squeeze in a breakfast party and start a weekly backyard movie series. I have a ridiculous birthday party theme for this year, too, which I’ll write about in a few weeks.
So in the spirit of summer hosting, I’m back with dinner party tablescapes.
I recreated a shoppable edit of my Italian-ish backyard birthday party, mostly with secondhand finds.
Italian-ish backyard birthday
La Valle tomato can, $5? — Jadeite cake stand, $74 — Fish carafe, $49 — Ceramiche de Simone candleholder set of 2, $50 (that’s a screaming deal) — Alessi spaghetti ladle, $65 — Blue and white tablecloth, $24 — Sqirl plate, $24 — Chrome dessert cups, $24 — Cabbage bowl, $20
I also dreamed up a few more tablescapes—Southern Gothic, a colorful oyster shucking party, and what I’d imagine a breakfast party might look like in the desert.
Which tablescape are you?
